How to Create a Budget That Survives Any Outcome of the Election 🗳️💡

Assalamu Alaikum girlie! 🌸

With election season right around the corner, I know a lot of us are feeling a bit uneasy about what might happen next.

For most of us, whoever’s in the White House in Jan’25 won’t change our financial pictures as much as we can Inshaa Allah.

Your financial health doesn't have to be at risk, no matter who wins.

Here’s what we’ll cover today:

  • Make Dua for peace & stability🤲

  • Focus on what you can control 🎯

  • Build in flexibility to adjust when needed đź’°

  • Prioritize emergency savings for peace of mind 🚨

  • Avoid emotional spending and stick to the plan đź’ł

  • Review your long-term financial goals 📆

Let’s dive right in! 📚

1.Make Dua for Peace and Stability đꤞ
One of the most important actions we can take as Muslims is to turn to Allah (SWT) and make dua for peace, stability, and barakah in our lives and communities. 🌸

When we ask Allah for guidance and protection, we're reminded that our ultimate trust is in Him, not in worldly systems.

Alongside creating a budget and planning ahead, make sincere dua for ease in your financial matters, for stability in your home and country, and for the wellbeing of the entire ummah. đź’–

2.Focus on What You Can Control 🎯

Elections might impact certain financial policies, but most of your financial health relies on the decisions YOU make every day.

Instead of worrying about things you can't change, focus on your spending habits, saving goals, and how you manage debt (including student loans). Don’t wait around for a forgiveness program that less than 1% of eligible people actually receive.

Start by tracking your monthly expenses—how much are you actually spending vs. saving? Use tools like Excel sheets or apps like YNAB or EveryDollar.

3. Build Flexibility Into Your Budget đź’°
Flexibility is key to surviving uncertain times. You don't need to overhaul your entire budget if things change politically, but you should always have some wiggle room.

Maybe you allocate a bit extra toward your emergency fund or adjust your grocery budget.

Make sure your budget is adaptable and resilient enough to cover unforeseen changes, like price hikes or unexpected expenses.

4. Prioritize Emergency Savings 🚨
One of the best ways to prepare for anything—election outcomes included—is to have a robust emergency fund. Think of it as your financial cushion that softens any blow.

Aim to save 3-6 months of living expenses in a safe and accessible account. This way, if things take a turn—whether that's inflation, job loss, or policy changes—you have a buffer to protect yourself.

5. Avoid Emotional Spending đź’ł
Politics can stir emotions. People often feel uncertain and react by making impulsive financial decisions. Don't fall into that trap!

Whether it's panic-buying or making big-ticket purchases out of fear of future price hikes, resist the urge. Stick to your financial plan, avoid new debt, and continue working toward your financial goals. You got this Inshaa Allah!

6. Review Your Long-Term Goals 📆
Lastly, elections can be an opportunity to revisit your long-term goals. Are you on track to buy your first home or to replace your car? How are you managing your debt?

Whether you're planning to buy a home, invest more, or increase your savings, having a clear vision for your future ensures that short-term disruptions don’t knock you off course.

Bonus Point: Diversify Your Income
If you’re feeling particularly concerned about job stability or the economy, consider ways to diversify your income streams. Don’t take uncalculated risks.

This could be through freelance work, side hustles, or investing. Multiple streams of income add an extra layer of financial security, regardless of what happens in the world of politics.

The key to financial stability is creating a plan you can stick with, no matter the external circumstances. Your budget is your tool—use it wisely! 💼

May Allah keep us all safe and protected at all times!

Stay generous,
