The Pizza Shop Tried to Guilt-Trip Me

Is Money the Root of all Evil?

Assalamu Alaikum girlie! 🌸

Okay so picture this:

I walk into a pizza spot.
I’m rushing, the smell’s hitting me, can’t wait to leave.
And as I go to the cashier, there’s a donation box by the register.

Not a problem. Cute idea. Until I see the sign:

…Excuse me?!

Now I’m standing there, holding a extra extra large cheese pizza, and apparently also holding the weight of the dunya on my soul?? Because I didn’t drop a few dollars into a box??

This, bestie, is what we call spiritual guilt-tripping and it’s more common than you think.

Let’s Clear This Up Once and for All

No, money is not the root of all evil.
The love of money - when it becomes your obsession, your identity, or your god - that’s where the problem starts.

But money itself?
It’s a tool. A resource. Neutral. Amoral. Like a knife - you can slice fruit or cause harm. It depends on how you use it.

Why This Misquote Keeps Us Stuck

We’ve been conditioned to:

  • Hate on wealthy people

  • Romanticize struggle

  • Associate financial success with “worldliness”

So instead of building wealth responsibly, many of us:

  • Sabotage our own success

  • Feel guilty every time we save or invest

  • Stay in survival mode and call it “being content”

Let’s be clear:
There’s nothing noble about staying broke on purpose.
And there’s no shame in wanting more if you’re going to manage it well.

Let Money Be a Mirror, Not a Master

Here’s how to move from fear to maturity:

💸 Money reveals character it doesn’t create it

If you’re generous when you have $60, you’ll be generous with $6000.
If you’re messy with $6000, you were probably messy with $60.

It’s not the money, it’s the mindset behind it.

📊 Structure keeps your ego in check

Don’t fear being “tested” with more money.
Fear not having a plan for it.

When you budget with values, automate giving, and separate emotions from spending, money loses its power over you and becomes something you manage on purpose.

🧠 You’re not more pious because you avoid money

There’s a difference between being modest and being fearful.
Don’t let fear of being “greedy” keep you from being prepared.

Let’s End the Shame Cycle

Money isn’t out here scheming.
It doesn’t make you stingy. It doesn’t corrupt you.
You do that - or you don’t.

So instead of asking “what if wealth makes me evil?”
Ask:

“Who do I want to be with wealth? And how can I plan for that version of me?”
